Less of me, more of you...
Well, the first three months have been pretty much focused on ME, ME, ME and my big year... It's about time I give back.
As I look at people I have great admiration for in life, they all seem to have one thing in common - a serving heart. Mother Theresa, Billy Graham, Corrie Marais and a few other people that I currently know, but won't embarrass in this paragraph. Most of these folks live/d in places we would never dream of visiting or travel far and wide serving others, but the truth is... we all have the ability to serve in our own communities, neighbourhoods, streets, friends and yes, even family! When we serve others right here in our small world, we allow them the chance to be re-freshed and cared for and in turn allow them to go out to serve others. We have the ability to send a ripple effect far and wide. Ever heard of "Random Acts of Kindness"? Well, this is more "Focused Acts of Consideration,Time and Service." (Yip - just made that right up! - What do you think?) :)
I have approached 30 people. For each day in April, I will go to one person's home and serve them however they wish.
It has been incredibly interesting to approach people and see or hear their reactions. Many people are taken back at the idea of being served, yet all (but one), have been open and even excited at the prospect. The reactions as to what I should do have been as varied as ("Ooh, you can help me pack", to "I’m very excited for this opportunity - I have thought about it several times and feel like a kid in a Candy shoppe, really :)" - Yes, this person seems to need more than 1 hour... ;)
I wondered long and hard during March how I should blog about these days and have decided the following:
I will put up the pictures of each person I serve as the days go by, however, I will only publish their stories at the end of April/start of May, as I believe it is going to be important for each person to enjoy their own day and not be influenced as the days go by or about how previous days have unfolded for me.
Well, wish me luck and here's hoping I can be of encouragement to others, as I serve them!

I think this is a wonderful idea Candice. Amazing actually. Will be quite tiring to sustain, but that's the point I guess. I can't to hear the things you get asked to do. Be sure and tell us if you ever had to reject any of the requests :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Malcolm - so far the person who has impacted me the most has been Florence Marais - your Mum, but I will reveal that at the end of April... so come back and see what happened.
